I will greet you upon arrival and give you an orientation to the apartment and the area. As a former Acadia National Park Ranger, I provide first-hand information about visiting Mount Desert Island and other area attractions (Seal Cove Auto Museum is just around the bend). I’ll even tell you about my favorite walks: one for a foggy morning, another for that crystal-clear, blue-sky afternoon.

The bustle of Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. The islands, mountains, oceanfront, ponds, trails, motor roads, and carriage roads of Acadia National Park are the biggest attraction in the area. Some of that beauty is right out the door of this guest apartment; the rest is close by.

Nearby convenience stores are located in Bernard and Somesville; grocery and other shopping can be found in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor.

A vehicle is pretty much a necessity when staying at “Ferncrest.” While seasonal shuttle buses serve Acadia and Mount Desert Island (May-Oct.), the closest stop is several miles away.

Acadia’s gravel roads are great for wide-tire bicycles. Local roads are not suited for biking, and I discourage bicycles as the primary means of transport for guests. It is too dangerous. Several local shops rent bikes suited to the park’s roads.
