This cottage is on the quiet side of a island, which also has a variety of activities and scenery to take in. It had the mountains, ocean and numerous lakes all near by. With Bar Harbour also close enough to visit on a whim. The stars at night are awesome. The accommodations were great. Large enough for 2-3 people with 2 bedrooms, and a small kitchen, so that you can eat I’m if you want. The only ting I wanted more, was a larger refrigerator /freezer space. The refrigerator was dorm sized, and the freezer was very small. It would have been nice to be able to store ice cream or make ice for drinks for the day. If you cannot do steps well this is not the place for you, as the space is up a flight of stairs. It is perfect for a couple or a small family (one child). I very much enjoyed my stay here and Bruce was very helpful if you are not familiar with the area. — Betty P. @ HomeAway
My fiancé and I had a relaxing and peaceful stay at Ferncrest. It was exactly what we needed. Bruce was such a helpful host. He gave us great pointers about hikes, bike rides, swimming spots and restaurants. His home is a cozy, lovely spot in the paradise that is Acadia. One of the best nights was when Bruce built us a fire and we stargazed (a rare occurrence for New Yorkers ;). We would highly recommend staying here and we hope to come back again soon! — Emily L. @ AirBnB

My 12-year-old daughter and I stayed at Ferncrest for a week and it was hard to leave, we loved it so much. Bruce greeted us with warmth and a vase of freshly cut lilacs from his enormous and amazing lilac bush. Everyday we’d try to fit in as many things as we possibly could on Mount Desert Island and within Acadia—hiking, kayaking, birding, whale watching, lobster meals, and simply being in awe of the beauty surrounding us at all times. It was always so lovely to come back to Ferncrest and relax.
We were amazed at the sounds of coyotes and loons—the incredible songs of the variety of birds, all audible through the windows. Ahhhh … the view! To see the mountains lit up by the sun in the evening after a cloudy day was joyous. The darkness of night opened up the most magical world of infinite stars and hundreds of glowing fireflies. We were so thankful for Bruce’s tips such as to watch the fireflies and to hike Wonderland on a foggy day. He has tremendous knowledge of the area and I was thankful that he was able to reassure my daughter that she didn’t have to worry—being a city kid; she had some fears of the trails and the possibile danger.
The living space had everything we needed to feel at home. It was spacious and cozy, stocked with a fantastic selection of books for rainy days and evenings, and filled with little surprises. It was fun to search for the secret drawer, and to drink tea each day from the adorable bunny mugs. This was an unforgettable getaway, and we hope to return for more amazement and inspiration. We highly recommend Bruce’s Ferncrest! — Jody B. @ HomeAway
What an amazing place and great find. Bruce has created the perfect getaway on the “quiet side ” of the island. It was clean and just as described. Bruce offered us so many suggestions of great hikes and places to see that it took us three days to get to Acadia! Beautiful night skies from his back yard and great views of the mountain from your window. Close to great hikes and good food. Cadillac Mtn is less than 30 minutes away. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you!
