Q: Is “Ferncrest” located on the shore?
A: Two lakes are a short walk, another is a 5-minute drive through Acadia National Park. It’s a 4-minute drive to the park’s Pretty Marsh Picnic area on the ocean, and 7 minutes to the town picnic area on the shore of Seal Cove.
Q: How many bathrooms?
A: One, with combination tub/shower.
Q: Is breakfast provided?
A: No. Guests prepare their own meals in the apartment kitchen. There is also a wide selection of restaurants within a 20-minute drive.
Q: What about pets?
A: Some guests are allergic, so no pets are allowed at “Ferncrest.”
Q: Can I pay for my stay with a check.
A: Yes, with an advanced reservation made directly with me. Or, use the convenience of a credit card. Go to: Reservations.
Q: Is the apartment handicap accessible?
A: No. Climbing stairs is required to access to the apartment; the lavatory is not fully accessible.
Q: Is public transportation available?
A: A vehicle is pretty much a necessity when staying at “Ferncrest.” While seasonal shuttle buses serve Acadia and Mount Desert Island (May-Oct.), the closest stop is several miles away.
Q: What about bicycles?
A: Acadia’s gravel roads are great for wide-tire bicycles. Local roads are not suited for biking, and I discourage bicycles as the primary means of transport for guests. It is too dangerous. Several local shops rent bikes suited to the park’s roads.
