We were very comfortable here and felt “at home.” As usual, I will be leaving MDI with the distinct feeling it was not enough time to do all that I wanted here. – Bruce W.
I rarely say “perfect” but I’ll hazard it now. Looking forward to a return. Heart full of thanks. – Sarah W.
If you want a place away from touristy Bar Harbor, then this is the place for you. It is close enough to drive the entire island, so you can visit Bar Harbor and then get back to the quietness here at Ferncrest. After a day you will truly call this place home and not want to leave. It is exactly as it is sold online. Bruce is welcoming and helpful and supplies you with various maps and an abundance of information to make your visit that much better. Bruce gave us many ideas of things to do on our visit to take advantage of and we took all his recommendations, and not one of his recommendations let us down. He even gave us directions to help save us time. If we were to come back to Maine, this is definitely where we will stay again. I feel so fortunate to find this oasis that we got to call home. — MK @ HomeAway
We loved this place…peaceful, beautiful, super clean and Bruce was, as another reviewer said, very helpful but not intrusive. If we didn’t live so far away we would love to come back for every season. It is truly the best of both Acadia worlds…..the “quieter side” offers the “other” harbors: Southwest, Northeast and Bass which are worth exploring. Then of course you have Bar Harbor close enough (check out the changing tides at Frenchman’s Bay). We did everything Bruce suggested and that other travelers mentioned in the house journal. This was our fifth trip to Acadia in 28 years, and we experienced more of the area than ever before. — DB and JB @ HomeAway
This trip was meant to be a graduation celebration for my son Cody. But finding your listing and your hospitality has been so much more. So many beautiful places to see in our national park system, and so little time. You could create a lifetime exploring and getting to know anyone of them. To have been able to draw on your experiences in Acadia has been simply amazing! Even with a knee awaiting surgery you steered us to sites that awe inspiring. Beech Mountain was everything you described and more. Ship Harbor, beautiful. And each destination within the park so different. Thank you! I will be back. — Tom C.
I had such an amazing time this week staying in your home. This house was everything my dad and I hoped for, the perfect quiet house in the hills of Maine. We got to do so many great hikes in the park including Beehive, Beach Mountain, and Ship Harbor to name a few. All of which had fantastic views. It will be hard to leave Acadia and return to the hussle of New Jersey. I know we will miss the park immensely. Thank you so much for the great hospitality. I hope we are able to make it back again sometime. — Cody C.
Bruce created a wonderful setting which truly felt like home away from home. Being away from the rest of the tourists gave us the impression to be part of the local community. Interacting with Bruce was wonderful. He was very kind and extremely knowledgeable about the area. My family and I would gladly come back — Luc L. @ HomeAway
The apartment was very clean and comfortable – and very nicely decorated. The owner is friendly and very helpful, but not at all intrusive. He’s also an excellent source of information regarding the park, trails and the island in general. We look forward to returning in the future. — Lisa W. @ VRBO
The property is pristine and beautiful. The view in this picture is correct. The apartment is clean and nicely decorated. We had everything we needed supplied for. Bruce J. was hospitable, courteous, informative, and all around a nice guy to talk with. He made our trip a success from the places in the park to see to the enjoyable conversations. There are 4 or 5 harbors to drive to for food. We had lobster at Thurston’s in Northeast Harbor, Sunday brunch at Cafe This Way in Bar Harbor. We drove the national park loop to enjoy many different places, biked the carriage trails which were outstandingly beautiful, hiked up a mountain with a park ranger’s interpretation to boot, and strolled through two lovely gardens not to be missed. Overall our visit was well worth it; we are not disappointed at all with our lodging; in fact we hope to come back some day and enjoy the park more and staying at Ferncrest (#141438) would be our desire in order to get the most from the trip. — Scott W. @ HomeAway
Great stay in a nice upstairs apartment on the quiet side of the island right on the edge of the park. Bruce was a nice host and answered any questions we had. Our 2 year old was happy with the toy box full of antique type toys (toys are always better at other people’s houses!). The kitchen was great for us to be able to cook a lot of meals to avoid eating out too often. Overall great experience and we would recommend! — Amanda P. @ AirBnB
Peace and quiet minutes from Acadia National Park. Terrific location for hiking, biking and kayaking. The house was a haven of calm and silence – A ++ sleep quality. Most relaxing experience for outdoors lovers, who don’t care much for the ice cream parlors a and tourist shops of a Bar Harbor. The house was also well stocked with all cooking utensils, iron, beach towels, etc. Last, Bruce was a wealth of knowledge to recommend activities and really helpful in helping make the best of our visit. We shall return! — Marie-Laure C. @ AirBnB
My fiancé and I had a relaxing and peaceful stay at Ferncrest. It was exactly what we needed. Bruce was such a helpful host. He gave us great pointers about hikes, bike rides, swimming spots and restaurants. His home is a cozy, lovely spot in the paradise that is Acadia. One of the best nights was when Bruce built us a fire and we stargazed (a rare occurrence for New Yorkers ;). We would highly recommend staying here and we hope to come back again soon! — Emily L. @ AirBnB
